Electrox has added a UID Creator to its laser marking software suite so that suppliers to the US Department of Defence (DoD) can effortlessly comply with new regulations requiring them to uniquely identify all items they supply under the Unique Identification Registry (UID) scheme set up to manage the DoD’s vast inventories*.
To comply with these requirements all suppliers must mark each item with a Unique Item Identifier (UII) which comprises a data set made up of two primary elements; the enterprise manufacturing or supplying the item and the item itself. UID requires that these elements are encoded in a Data Matrix EC200 code that must remain legible throughout the service life of the item.
With just a few clicks of the mouse the UID Creator enables suppliers to generate and mark an EC200 compliant Data Matrix symbol of the required data set. Features of the Creator include selection of the issuing agency responsible for the enterprise identifier, direct entry of the enterprise identifier and automatic serialisation within both the enterprise identifier (Construct #1) and part, lot or batch number (Construct #2).
